Turn the Page

Mary and I have both accepted positions with a private, non-profit, educational organization (the PAST Foundation -the links at the bottom of this page lead to more information about our new employers and what they do).

PAST is really an educational Research & Development facility that provides programs in-house and in schools (PK-16) as well as professional development in schools and colleges around the country. 

The PAST Foundation came to Mitchell to put on two consecutive week long workshop in 2010. Mary and I were asked by our administration to volunteer for this workshop as not many teachers from our co-op had signed up. We have been learning from/with Dr. Sheli and Dr. Annalies ever since.

Once we finished the two years of mentorship and weekly Zoom meetings that came with the workshop, PAST started hiring us to help them put on workshops. Now we are getting called up to the big leagues! Mary is now the newest School Design Coordinator and I am a Bridge Programs Coordinator for the PAST Foundation.

We have been out to Columbus, Ohio a couple times to do work for PAST, including running multiple summer programs last June. We return to Ohio for the June summer camps.. Then we come back to gather our belongings and make the permanent move to Ohio!

I’m not happy about leaving Brookings and my kids/parents/sisters/family. Millions of teachers have the slogan “Be the change you wish to see in the world” posted in their classrooms. I’m off to make the world my classroom and change more than a 24 foot cinder block box!

I finished the school year yesterday at 3pm and will be pulling out at 8am tomorrow morning! 29 hours of summer vacation should be enough… right? My calm, slow, laid back midwestern days are over, it seems. As the story of my life unfolds it is time, once again, to “Turn the Page”. Adventure, challenge, and change here we come!
